The Erongo Region in central-western Namibia is an ideal stop-over for everyone on the way from Namibia’s capital Windhoek to Swakopmund in the west or the Etosha National Park in the north and the north western areas of the Damaraland or Kaokoveld.
The highest mountain in Namibia, the Brandberg with its famous rock painting ‘The White Lady’, and the characteristically shaped Spitzkoppe Mountains and the very old Messum crater are some of nature’s monuments in the northwest of the region.
Despite of the arid climate with little precipitation open water can be found deep in the rugged mountain range thus a diverse plant and wildlife is found here. Apart from various antelopes like kudus, oryx and klipspringers one will find mountain zebras, giraffes, baboons and leopards. Black Rhino has been reintroduced into the Erongo Rhino Sanctuary. A diverse flora is found in and outside of the Erongo crater.
